Mer-x-crim is a world of many civilizations. But all of them operate in a sequence and not together. By 7000 AD (the time around which Zingorba faces the circuit dilemma), the Mer-x-crim-ians would be living in the 87th Generation of Civilization.
Like a product, each generation of lives have an expiry date. Mer-x-crim is un-protected by asteroids, or rather very thinly shielded from foreign materials. Space agencies have analyzed the pattern of the meteoroid collision and have concluded that it takes around 250 years for one entire civilzation before they are blown up.
Due to the presence of Mer-x-crim in a asteroid zone, when these rocks are dodged by the atmosphere of the planet, they would end up colliding with the other rocks at close ranges to the planet which would ultimately end up harming the lives. Also, there would be a cluster of asteroids collected around the planet hampering space missions and satellite operations.
To solve this partially, the millions of small asteroids are made to fall on 'absorbers' placed on the ground which would dismantle the piece and use the material for various construction purposes.
But every 250 years, that one giant piece of rock beats all the resistances of the Mer-x-crim nature and wipes out lives. Strangely, the citizens do not call for an action to be taken.
They argue that, this surety of death makes them live more. This gives more value to their life. If one tends to become immortal, a time will come when life will have nothing to offer. And we would feel that being alive is actually being dead.
What all would you do in those 250 years? Think Wisely.
Take Care,
Vishwas
